Synopsis

José María García last addressed his listeners over the airwaves 20 years ago. On Sunday, 7 April 2002, he presented his programme just like any other day — but he never returned. He did not say goodbye. Now, in this documentary series, the journalist returns to his natural habitat, a radio studio, to bid farewell in style and confront his past face to face.

Across three episodes, we remember and analyse the key moments of his career during the years he was active, while observing how radio evolved in a Spain undergoing profound political, social and cultural change. We trace García’s story, and that of our country, through images, radio recordings and first-hand testimony from a cast of figures who played direct and indirect roles in his life. We tell the authentic and controversial story of a born journalist who fought to bring the truth to light and spearheaded a movement of investigative and campaigning journalism that disappeared when he left the microphone.

Now, at last, García will have the opportunity to reveal what really happened in the events that shaped his life and, on many occasions, the country.
